⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Enchanting Atmosphere & Memorable Meal Alehouse Armitage truly impressed us—not just with the food, but with one of the most stunning restaurant interiors I’ve seen in Chicago. At first, we thought we’d be dining in the bar area, which felt a bit cramped, and honestly, we were slightly underwhelmed. But then we were led to the other side, and it was a total transformation—upscale, warm, and absolutely enchanting. The space set the tone for what turned out to be a fantastic dinner. We had been eyeing this place for months, and finally made a reservation for a late Monday dinner through Capital One Dining. Even on a weeknight, the place was packed like it was a weekend. While the Capital One Dining experience didn’t seem to come with any explanation, we did end up with an extra dessert on the house—something I wish we’d been told about in advance, but no complaints there. As for the food—every course brought something to the table (literally and figuratively). We kicked things off with the **Spinach and Paneer Samosa**, and it was a standout. The pastry was light and crispy, while the filling had this rich, spiced depth that really hit the spot. It came with a green herb & yogurt chutney that was a little too minty for my liking, but it didn’t take away from how good the samosa was. Next, we shared **half portions of the Alehouse Chopped Wedge** and the **Smoked Trout Caesar**. The wedge was hearty, and the bacon bits added great texture and saltiness—but I’m not a fan of blue cheese dressings, so it wasn’t for me. The **Smoked Trout Caesar**, on the other hand, was absolutely flawless. Crisp romaine, sharp parmesan, and those genius salt & vinegar chips—just an excellent dish all around. For entrées, we tried the **Chicken Breast Tikka Masala** and **Peppercorn Steak Frites**. The tikka masala wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it was pretty close—smooth, aromatic, and served over perfectly cooked aged basmati rice. The steak frites, though, completely stole the show. The peppercorn cognac sauce was rich and punchy (fair warning—it’s got some heat!), and the fries were crisp and addictive. It was a dish I’ll be thinking about for a while. Dessert was unexpectedly generous. We had been encouraged to try the **Sticky Date Cake**, and thank goodness we listened—it was warm, moist, and covered in a dreamy caramel-like sauce. Absolutely mesmerizing. The **butter gelato** we got as a surprise extra was also delicious—creamy, indulgent, and the perfect finish. All in all, Alehouse Armitage offers more than just great food—it’s a full experience. From the gorgeous dining room to the thoughtfully crafted dishes, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back before you've even left. Highly recommend.

A friend doublebooked and we got their extra reservation. The buttery mashed potatoes - i kept coming back to. The bombay potatoes were great and reheat even better. I sampled my friend's fish and chips (good fry on the fish) and my boyfriend's bone marrow lamb pot pie (tender, not gamey). Armitage Alehouse has about 6-8 pie flavors, they pick 2 flavors and make those flavors that day. Pepper steak was great, perfect cook. Sticky toffee pudding was excellent.

I walked past this place once and had a feeling I needed to try it. So I booked it for my graduation, and it ended up making the day even more special. The atmosphere was lovely, and the food was Amazing. Every dish we ordered was packed with flavor though I’ll admit, the salad was the only thing that fell a bit flat. My top two favorites were the Chicken Breast Masala was incredibly tender and full of rich flavor and the Lamb Chop, which was perfectly cooked and just so satisfying. I I really recommended The Sticky Date Cake. I could honestly come back just for that. Every bite was warm, rich, slightly sweet, and completely addictive. It totally knocked me out (in the best way). Reservations are highly recommended it gets busy, and parking can be tricky during peak hours. But it’s super close to the Armitage Brown Line, so public transit is a great option. Already planning my next visit!

Food was delicious--worth all the hype! Went with friends and was able to try several dishes. The chicken pot pie was soooo good. The trout Caesar salad was a delightful surprise. And the sticky date cake is worth trying. Will def be coming back!

Armitage Alehouse deviates a bit from the quintessential Hogsalt fare and is better for it. The lunch / dinner menu is excellent - the pot pies don’t have as complex a flavor profile as I might’ve hoped, but the pastry is a perfect thickness and flakiness, paired with flavorful filling. The fish & chips are textbook (and very well-fried), while the za’atar charred naan is a surprising highlight - flavorful and beautifully soft & fluffy. Their sticky date cake is sumptuous and decadent and one of my favorite desserts in the city The only two knocks against their menu are that brunch is a bit underwhelming and that all of the items are quite rich. This is a consistent issue across the Hogsalts, and I always find myself looking for more levity - even the salads are on the heavy side. Service is great, though it got a bit slow towards the end of the meal, and the ambiance is charming

My favorite Hogsalt experience was here! My buddy and I came in for dinner. We sat in the back dining room. Gave a really cool, old dining room feel. Our server was fantastic, friendly, professional, knew the menu very well. Tried some cocktails which were all delicious. The bread, cheese and honey was a great starter. The Bone Marrow Chicken Pot Pie was awesome, the fried fish was good too but if you get heartburn easily (be careful with the vinegar). The sticky cake was also a favorite of the night. Great way to wrap up dinner! Overall, I'd recommend this place to any of my friends and family. If you can get a reservation, make sure you snag it because it's very difficult to get a reservation from my experiences. Great spot, will be back hopefully soon!

Our second time here. The food is amazing - upscale Indian-British pub food (with some other things). We split the Chicory, Mango, Paneer salad; the Steak & Ale Pot Pie*; the English Cut Prime Rib Sandwich; and the Sticky Date Cake (pictured). If you like prime rib sandwiches, this one was fantastic and was my favorite part of the meal. A friend said the Date Cake was the best thing he had ever eaten. I thought it was very good, but perhaps a bit too sweet for me so I can't agree with him. Service was excellent. We ate outside, which was simple. And preferred; the inside looks like an old English cave-turned-bar. Note the menu states they will ask you to pay a 3.25% surcharge, but you can ask to remove it. I'm not a fan of that; just include the price in your menu offering! It adds stress to people. * We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, but received this one. Turns out it was delicious as well!

Everything we ordered was delicious! The way to go is to order a variety of food and share among friends. We did not have a reservation and waited for about 45 minutes to dine in. Outdoor seating was available but we passed on a 90+ degree day. This is a great local joint and I highly recommend this place. Service was amazing. We had a great hostess and knowing that we were sharing everything, burger was brought to us split in 4 portions already.
